For brands on Elevar
Your Elevar Signal & Consent Implementation Partner
Elevar makes sure the tracking you've set up in Elevar respects your visitors' consent. The catch is that most Shopify stores have a lot of tracking that never goes through Elevar. It comes in through Shopify apps, Google Tag Manager and scripts pasted into your theme, and a lot of it won't listen to your consent banner unless someone wires it up. That's where we come in. We audit every tag on your store, advise you of what's firing, and then, during our implementation, wire it all up properly. So the whole store follows the same consent, not just the destinations you have configured in Elevar.
We also help with banner configuration, working alongside your legal team. That means figuring out what should be opt-in and what should be opt-out in the places you sell, a banner that actually works, a Do Not Sell page, a way to handle data requests, and a site that does what your privacy policy says. We keep field reports on the lawsuits and demand letters stores are getting, from small businesses to large enterprises, so we can tell you what we're actually seeing and help you get ahead of it.
And beyond compliance and consent, we make sure you're getting everything you possibly can out of Elevar. That means destinations connected, checked and QA'd, no duplicate tracking left over from legacy wiring from before Elevar, and making sure nobody's accidentally turned on GA4 in Shopify's Google & YouTube channel when Elevar's already sending that data. We turn on the features you're paying for, go into Klaviyo to make sure your flows are wired up properly, and work with the Elevar team when you need a new destination or something a bit unusual wired up. We spent years working at Elevar before starting Trackstars, so we know it inside out.
The Gap
Elevar Only Sees What's Set Up in Elevar.
Here's what that looks like on a typical Shopify store. Elevar's stream of data waits for your visitors' consent. The others often don't, and an Elevar implementation doesn't look at them, so if nobody else does, you're exposed.
Before anyone clicks your banner
A visitor has just landed on your store and hasn't said yes or no yet.
-
Tags set up in Elevar
Meta, GA4, Google Ads and your other Elevar destinations
Waits for a yes
-
Tags not set up in Elevar
Installed through Shopify apps, Google Tag Manager or inline scripts, like TikTok, Clarity, Klaviyo, Attentive and Gorgias
Sends anyway
Your Meta pixel can be perfectly set up in Elevar, gating requests, while your TikTok pixel installed in the Shopify app continues to track anyway.
These issues matter more than they used to, because lawsuits now target the long tail of tracking. It used to be about making sure your Meta pixel didn't track when somebody opted out. Now it's making sure Gorgias isn't tracking, Attentive isn't receiving requests, and your announcement banner isn't tracking before consent is given.
Where We Come In: Consent
Every Tag, Not Just Elevar's.
- 01
We itemize everything that tracks.
Every pixel, tag, app, script, cookie and network request on your store, not just what's set up in Elevar, with a recommendation for each one.
- 02
We wire your banner to all of it.
Your consent banner talks to the Shopify Customer Privacy API, the scripts in your theme, Google Tag Manager and Elevar, so one choice from a visitor applies everywhere.
- 03
We set up Elevar's Strict Consent Mode.
It's a newer Elevar setting that holds data back until a visitor has said yes. We turn it on and work out with you what should happen when no choice comes through, like ad-blocked visits, offline orders and subscriptions.
- 04
We test it everywhere you sell.
We check what every tag does before and after a visitor's choice, in every region you've turned on, so you know it works rather than hoping it does.
- 05
We keep it that way.
New apps and tags show up all the time. Stakeout, our monitoring tool, tells us when something changes, so a new app doesn't undo the work.
Where We Come In: Privacy
The Rules, Not Just the Wiring.
Someone has to decide what each tag should do, for each visitor, wherever they are. We follow the laws, from US state laws like the CCPA to wiretap claims under CIPA and the EU's GDPR, and keep field reports on the lawsuits and demand letters our customers have received. So the calls you make with your legal team, marketing and your DPO are based on what's actually happening to stores like yours. Then we put them in place.
Opt-in or opt-out, region by region.
Some places expect visitors to say yes before you track them. Others let you track until someone says no. We go through where you sell and help you and your legal team decide what should be opt-in and what should be opt-out.
The right default in every state.
What your banner does before anyone clicks matters most. We set the default for each region you've decided on, so every visitor starts from the right place.
A banner that actually works.
Configured so it really holds back what it says it holds back, remembers the choice, honors Global Privacy Control, and tells Shopify, Google Tag Manager and Elevar what the visitor chose.
An opt-out page that does something.
A Do Not Sell or Share page that actually stops the sharing, in the browser and in the customer data Elevar sends from its servers.
Data requests, handled.
A way for people to ask what you hold about them, or to have it deleted (often called DSARs), and a process your team can follow when they do.
A privacy policy that matches your site.
We check your privacy policy against what your site actually does and flag the gaps for your legal team. The policy stays with them. We make sure your site lives up to it.
Where We Come In: Elevar
Get Everything Elevar Can Do.
Consent is half of it. The other half is making sure Elevar sends every platform everything it's allowed to, so your ads, analytics and email get the signal they need. Tools like Elevar are often only partly used.
Destinations connected, and connected properly.
We connect the destinations you need, from Meta, GA4 and Google Ads to TikTok and Klaviyo, and check each one is getting what it should.
The right defaults.
We set Elevar up for your store, from its consent settings to the events each destination gets, so everything starts out right.
Every event checked.
We compare what Elevar sends with what each platform receives: missing details, match quality (like Meta's Event Match Quality score), and duplicates, whether they're left over from legacy wiring from before Elevar or coming from GA4 switched on in Shopify's Google & YouTube channel.
Features you're paying for, turned on.
Elevar setups often leave useful features switched off. We find them, explain what each would do for you, and turn on the ones that make sense.
Klaviyo flows, wired up properly.
We go into Klaviyo and make sure your flows are wired up to the events Elevar sends, so your abandoned cart, browse and checkout flows get the most out of it.
An advocate with Elevar.
Need a destination Elevar doesn't support yet, or tracking that's a bit unusual? We take it to the Elevar team with you and push to get it wired up, or build it alongside Elevar ourselves.
Why Trackstars
We Know Elevar From the Inside.
Before Trackstars, we spent years at Elevar, working on the engineering behind it and leading solutions for the brands that use it. We know what it does, what it doesn't, and where a setup usually falls short.
Shopify specialists.
Shopify is where we do most of our work, and where most Elevar stores live.
Any consent banner.
Consentmo, TrueVault, Cookiebot, OneTrust, Shopify's own and more. We're Consentmo and TrueVault partners too.
Plain English.
Most people we work with aren't engineers. We explain what the engineering means for your business.

Questions
Good to Know
Doesn't Elevar already handle consent?
For the destinations you've set up in Elevar, yes, once its consent settings are configured. It doesn't control tracking that's installed some other way, like Shopify apps, Google Tag Manager or code in your theme. That's the part we cover, along with getting Elevar's own consent settings right.
Do I need to switch consent banners?
Usually not. We work with the one you have, whether that's Consentmo, TrueVault, Cookiebot, OneTrust, Shopify's own banner or another, as long as it can tell Shopify and Elevar what your visitors chose.
Will Strict Consent Mode cost me conversions?
It can mean fewer events reach your destinations, because it holds data back until someone says yes. That's the point of it. We'll walk you through the tradeoff before anything changes, and set up what happens when no choice comes through.
Is this only for Shopify stores?
Most of our Elevar work is on Shopify, but Elevar also connects to other platforms through its API, and we work on those too.
Can you tell us what's legally required?
We can tell you what the laws say, what other brands and their lawyers are doing, and what we're seeing in our field reports on the lawsuits and demand letters stores have actually received, from small businesses to large enterprises. The final calls belong to your legal team, and we'll work alongside them to put those calls in place.
Are you lawyers?
No. Which privacy rules apply to you is a legal call. We work alongside your legal team, or help you find one if you don't have one, and make sure your site does what your policies say.
